for den mistede formidlingsplatform opførtes med støtte fra

Blue Water Fonden i stedet et formidlingsbassin i Sælarie-

gården. Ved bassinet kan formidlerne fortælle om dyrene i

vandet i øjenhøjde med publikum, og bassinet kan benyttes

til at sætte fokus på særlige naturfænomener – f.eks. stenbi-

derens gydevandring som forårsbebuder.

Summary

Renovation of the sealarium and establishment of the Wad-

den Sea pavilion. New displays at the Fisheries and Mari-

time Museum

Right from the beginning, the animal life in the Wadden Sea

and the North Sea has been the central point for many of

the Fisheries and Maritime Museum’s research and presen-

tation activities. With the addition of the sealarium in 1976,

the seals assumed in earnest a central position in the Mu-

seum’s work and trademark. After many years of service,

the sealarium needed a comprehensive renovation, and in

June 2013 the Museum was able to commission the new

sealarium, where the Wadden Sea was the inspiration for

the design. The sealarium was thus built as a Wadden Sea

environment with sandbanks, tidal channels, fascines and

dunes. The authentic Wadden Sea as setting gives the visitor

the illusion of being with the seals out in the actual Wadden

Sea. An associated exhibition tells about the Wadden Sea’s

seals, their life and biology.

The latest addition, a Wadden Sea pavilion, opened to

guests in 2014. The pavilion houses a bird section, where

wading birds and ducks can be viewed both above and under

water. The associated display focusing on the Wadden Sea’s

ecosystem invites visitors to go on a tour of discovery at the

11 metre-long interactive wall, 1:100 models of some of the

Wadden Sea’s hidden animal life and aquariums with both

native and invasive species of fish and invertebrates from the

Wadden Sea.

Lasse Fast Jensen (f. 1977)

Biolog, ph.d. 2007 ansat som forskningsassistent ved DTU

Aqua, Institut for akvatiske ressourcer samt som ekstern

lektor ved Fróðskaparsetur Føroya, Universitetet på Færø-

erne. Siden 2008 ansat ved Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet/ Cen-

ter for Maritime og Regionale Studier som naturhistorisk

museumsinspektør og forsker, fra 2015 seniorforsker. Har

publiceret en række artikler om genetik og fysiologi hos

bl.a. fisk og udgav i 2011 bogen

Sælernes Univers.

Udstillingen ”Livet i Vadehavet” formidler gennem billeder, inter-

aktive spil, modeller og akvarier vadehavets mangfoldige liv og

fødekæde.
