tation was to concentrate on three main areas. The first was

          to study the

            Dana Anglia

as a workplace. The second was

to document the ship as a form of transport and “floating

hotel”. And the third was to provide data on the ship’s

knock-on economic impact on Esbjerg. Most of these tasks

were only possible by having the project team work on the

ship. DFDS was therefore asked whether they would assist

with the project and provide it with the requisite freedom to

move anywhere about the ship and make notes, conduct

interviews with crew members and passengers, and take

photos and videos en route. The project concept was recei-

ved very positively by DFDS, and on 2 September 2002 the

project team of seven persons went on board the M/S

presented in summary form in this article.

There were a couple of long – but also particularly inte-

resting and rewarding – workdays before the project group

left the ship on 4 September after a successful trip to Eng-

land. In terms of material, the result of the total of 48 hours

of work was about 160 interviews with crew members and

passengers, about 800 photographs, a few hours of videos,

and lists of suppliers, crew and passenger lists, duty rosters,

work instructions and much more. The material collected

will later be supplemented by equivalent collections and

has been obtained, and all indications are that it will be pos-
