cars along, seem happy with the shorter duration of the
crossing and see comfort on board as less important. On the
other hand, there are many passengers, used to comfort on
board the
Dana Anglia
, who have said that they miss the
various entertainment alternatives on board. Especially mis-
sed is the cinema which, for many passengers, has been a
steadfast element when travelling with
Dana Anglia
. How-
ever, in this area, improvements will soon be taking place;
there have certainly been reports that the shipping company
is going to enhance the facilities with a cinema on board the
Dana Sirena
.
There is no doubt that both the crew and the company
management are very attentive with regard to how the pas-
sengers receive the new concept. There is a great awareness
of the customers’ importance in further development and,
across all the crew groups, this has given rise to positive in-
teraction, with focus on adapting the ro/pax concept in order
that it will become a durable and attractive solution for both
passenger and goods traffic. The engagement in the deve-
lopment of the concept has to be seen, of course, in the con-
text of the ro/pax concept’s not being just an attempt at im-
proving the economy of the England traffic. It is a concept
which - if developed properly – can be utilised on many of
the other DFDS routes, thereby putting the shipping com-
pany in a stronger position for international shipping’s more
intensive competition. The observations that have been made
on the documentation trip aboard
Dana Sirena
show, there-
fore, much more than just a restructuring of the traffic to
England from Esbjerg. In reality, it is a commentary on an
innovation process in international shipping – and of the
many challenges that are always involved with altering the
status quo.
